Movie Review: “Night School” Starring Kevin Hart
October 20, 2018
Tickets were sold out on September 28 and the week following for the new movie Night School starring Kevin Hart. People are lining up to watch this fun-filled comedy directed by Malcolm D. Lee. The popular director has brought us other films like Girls Trip (2017), Scary Movie 5 (2013), and The Best Man (1999). The movie stars Kevin Hart as a student going to school to get his degree and Tiffany Haddish as his teacher.
Kevin Hart played Fridge in Jumanji (2017), which was the 40th highest-grossing movies in the world. He also played Calvin Joyner in Central Intelligence (2016), starring beside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Hart’s best movies include Ride Along (2014), and Ride Along 2 (2016).
In Night School, Hart plays the character Teddy Walker, a struggling high school student who cares about sports, girls, and socializing. As the movie progresses, Teddy drops out of high school after throwing a fit in the SAT testing room. He becomes a salesman.
Walker experiences a series of unfortunate events, such as getting promoted to store owner just to burn the place down by accident when proposing to his girl friend. He cracks his windshield and totals his car, gets in arguments and sees old ‘friends’ he never thought he’d see again.
Walker comes to the realization that he needs a career. Unless he gets his GED, he is at a dead end.
He attends night school with five other students ranging in age, background, and motives. The class goes through ups and downs from getting caught cheating a test to attending the prom.
The sound track throughout the movie includes songs that match the mood well, including “Eye of the Tiger.”
The acting in the movie from all of the characters was great. One of the best characters in the movie is Mackenzie, who is played by Rob Riggle. Riggle is a famous comedian and has also acted in The Hangover (2009), 21 Jump Street (2012), and Dumb and Dumber To (2014).
Overall, the movie is worth the watch, especially if you enjoy comedy. Everything in the movie, from the sets to the acting make for a great movie worth watching. Be ready for this fun-filled, busy, and over dramatic comedy film.
