Mr. Darren Hornbeck’s  9/11 class created models of the real estate that was around the Twin Towers just before the attacks in 2001. He chose this project because many of his students were either not born until after 9/11 or were too young to see the Twin Towers, and he needed to have some type of model to show them what the real estate was like.

Hornbeck said, “I discovered that there aren’t any models left of the World Trade Center.  There are kits that you can buy, but they are about $600.” He had to have some model for his students so they could understand what the scene looked like. He found an online template.

These models took anywhere from three to five or more hours to make.

Senior Sarah Hall, said, “Becoming more familiar with the buildings, now I know where everything is as we watch videos and see pictures of the towers and buildings.”

9/11 is a date that many will always remember, and Hornbeck is making sure of that. The class is all about the chronological events of 9/11 to the present and their impact on the United States from then to now.

He feels that it is important to offer this class because it “chronologically makes up the last 16 years” and many students “weren’t born when 9/11 happened.”

Senior, Adriana D’Amore said, “It [the class] is very interesting and I want do something like this as my future career, maybe the FBI or a government job.”
