27th annual Linganore Art Show: Wilhelm and Todd prepare AP Art concentration exhibits
April 24, 2017
Linganore celebrates self-expression and creativity of the arts with an annual show. The 27th Annual Art show is on April 27th. It is a culmination of the whole year’s work from all art classes at the school. Upper-level students get a special emphasis and their own exhibits at the show.
Megan Wilhelm
One upper-level student that will be featured is the graduating senior Megan Wilhelm.
Wilhelm will have her photography in the art show. She is in AP Studio Art and chose the concentration of all her black and white photos to hand. She is not imitating photos of other artist’s pictures but was influenced by the black-and-white style of Richard Avedon.
Wilhelm got into photography in 4th grade, but never took a class until junior year of high school.
“Students should just try art classes. You don’t have to be an artist to take art,” said Mrs. Georgia Geisser. Geisser teaches all Jewelry levels, all ceramics levels, and Art 1.
Wilhelm has improved in photography ever since her first class. She now sees photography
in her future.
“I see myself going far in photography. I am going to school for it. The goal is to start my own business where I can continue taking and sharing my photographs,” said Wilhelm.
Kennedy Todd
Kennedy Todd will display her sculptural pieces in the show along with one drawing. She does mostly 3D works. Todd chose the focus of her projects to be on the human effect on the environment. Todd believes people don’t understand what the negative consequences of abusing the environment. She hopes her pieces can change people’s opinions.
Todd has been in art for her whole life. Her father was an artist and wanted her to pursue it as well.
“In elementary school, my parents would secretly use my drawings and put me into art competitions. Without knowing why I would get a bunch of ribbons from winning,” said Todd.
Todd and Wilhelm, along other talented artists, will have their works in Linganore’s 27th Annual Art show on April 27th. Come out and see all of the work made by fellow classmates that will showcase their artistic abilities!
