Football loses a hard fought game to Walkersville: Photo of the Day 9/28/17

On September 28th, Linganore varsity boys football did not prevail over the Walkersville Lions in the Frederick County face off. The Lions were well ahead the entire game and ended with a score of 40-10.
Linganore and Walkersville went into the match with with undefeated records and a lot of local hype. (Walkersville, now 5-0 and Linganore, 4-1) This long-awaited game had a massive turnout- football fanatics from all over gathered to watch the two best teams in the county fight for their undefeated records.
The Lions were off to a good start, finishing the first quarter with a 10 yard TD and a 6-0 lead. Immediately at the start of the second quarter, Walkersville attacked again and scored.
Kicking in the second quarter, Junior Bennett Formulak scored the first points for the Lancers on a 37-yard field goal. The halftime score was 20-3, Walkersville.
During the third quarter, Quarterback Ryan Leyh found Joey Feton for a 20-yard pass to run in and make history as the first team to score on Walkersville offensively this season.
In the second half of the game, Walkersville was not to be stopped. They scored play after play and widened the lead gap until there was no hope of a comeback.
“Winning this game would only mean bragging rights to us–they are not in our division, so we wouldn’t see them in the playoffs. This game is like a turf war for Frederick County football,” said coach Rick Conner before the game.
