Varsity girls volleyball reigned victorious over the Middletown Knights winning 3 straight sets, eliminating the need for 5 matches, moving their record to 7-4.

In the first match #7 Corynne Lovewell got her first ace of the night. #15 Maddie Walsh also got an ace along with two kills. Haley Cook, an outside hitter, got two kills against the Middletown defense as well.

Maddie France, the lead setter in Frederick County had 10 assists in just the first match.

France along with middle hitter Jessica Mitchell each got a kill in the first game. First game was won 25-19.

Rachael Moravansky started off the second match with a kill. The ladies were off to a fierce start with a 10-2 lead over the Knights. Jacqueline Ryan hit 3 kills and Mitchell had 2. Walsh had 2 aces and a block.

Class of 2018 member, Cailyn Barthlow, came off the bench after recovering and rehabilitation from her broken leg and served for one play.  As she was subbing in and after the serve, the crowd and the team cheered for her.

The response to Barthlow shows the unity within the team and the Linganore fans.

The match was won 11-25. Middletown was thrown off by the powerful hitting on the Linganore side.

“Hitting is an important part of the game. A well-executed hit can be very hard to return, and I think that is one reason we won against Middletown. We were hitting well and getting kills off of them,” said Mitchell.

The third match was longer and more intense, close for the whole match. At one point it was 10-13 in favor Middletown. Ryan got an ace, closing the gap, but Middletown was able score again.

Class of 2021 member, Julia Gladhill, caught the Lancers up to a tie after her two aces making the score 14-14. Later, she bypassed the Knights after serving nine times in a row. Gladhill made an incredible save and return to Middletown.

Jordan Nicolet and Ryan had quick defense during this match. The two ladies  are capable of seeing the whole court, being aware of their surroundings and predicting where the ball will go before hand. The round was won 25-20 after France assisted Emily Day to the final kill of the game.

“It’s all about communication. If we didn’t talk, we would lose. A silent court leads to confusion and a point for the other team. Reading the court is important for defense, it allows you to always be in the right place,” said Nicolet

France ended the game with 24 assists, and Moravansky ended the night with 6 kills.
