The movie theater gets Strange with Cumberbatch’s new film
December 13, 2016
Magic and action enter the theater as Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, comes in.
After being in a tragic accident, neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, loses his gifted hands and can no longer continue his successful career. Strange goes on hunt looking for a cure to his damaged hands. He uses all of his money to find a rumored place that can heal his injuries. When he gets there, Strange gets thrown into a world of magic, action, and adventure.
This film perfectly mixed the classic Marvel action movie vibe with a twist of magic. The character development was great; seeing Strange go from an egotistical neurosurgeon to a hero who saves mankind was exciting.
Being a fan of the past Marvel movies, I was skeptical when I first heard about Doctor Strange. In the recent extended Marvel Universe, every hero and villain had been science based with an explanation of exactly how their powers work. However Strange is one of the only characters who uses unexplained magic and powers from the universe.
Compared to Captain America, this movie, in my opinion, ranks equally high, but for other reasons. Although both have action and adventure, Captain America has bravery and feats of strength like a classic Marvel movie. Doctor Strange is a more magical, mind-boggling movie full of a mix of modern and ancient themes.
I really enjoyed the film. In fact, I would consider this movie one of my favorite Marvel films. Personally, I have to say that this wasn’t over action-packed, and it is the most creative of all the Marvel movies. With multiple dimensions and portals to different places, the movie is mind-bending and captivating.
The movie brought in a total amount just shy of 85 million dollars. Doctor Strange is the 14th consecutive Marvel movie to get top spot in the box office opening weekend.
