Linganore’s girls varsity lacrosse ended the 2014 season with a disappointing record of 1 and 11.

The girls on the team had talent and skill but could not find a way to put it all together on the field and bring home more victories.

It was a bit of discouragement for the players and many were hesitant about whether they wanted to play this season.

Driving the team to new success will be midfielder and attackman Ally Coggins.

Coggins was voted one of the teams captains, sharing the responsibility with her friend, Mary Caffrey.

“I love being on the field with her. She is an excellent player and a great teammate!” says Caffrey.

Ally is a senior and it is her 6th year playing lacrosse.  In addition, she also runs cross country.

Coggins recently received a partial scholarship to Wheeling Jesuit University, signing to play Division 2 lacrosse.

“I’ve known since around sophomore year that I wanted to go to college and play lacrosse, so when looking for schools, I made sure I looked for a good program” says Ally.

Ally not only plays for the Linganore team, but she has also played on the Rebels club team. Her coach was Brett Ponchione, who Ally says taught her the most.

She emailed college coaches and asked them to attend some of her club tournament games and that is where they all got the chance to see her play.

When some students go to school to play sports it is hard for them to manage practice, games, homework, and keeping up their grades.

“I am a little nervous about juggling my school work and being a member on the team, but I think I will succeed,” says Coggins.

The first game of the Linganore Girls Lacrosse season is Friday, March 20th against South Hagerstown, at South Hagerstown. JV will play at 5:30 and Varsity will play at 7:00.
