SGA plans week of homecoming festivities: Get spirited
October 7, 2015
Homecoming week begins on Saturday, October 10! Help your class earn spirit points by participating in many events.
- Starting on Wednesday, October 7, you can start earning SPIRIT POINTS for your class. (Sprit points can be earned for the float, banner, and hill painting activities as well as by participating in spirit week; the class with the highest number of points will earn the coveted “spirit stick” at the pep rally on Thursday, October 8.) Starting tomorrow, you can earn spirit points by donating dimes (or other money) to your class’ water bottle at lunch. The goal is for each class to fill four water bottles. (A ‘filled’ water bottle will have $100 in it.) Points will be credited for each dollar: $1 is equal to one spirit point. All proceeds will benefit the SGA’s October “Pink Out” campaign and go to the American Cancer Society.
- On Saturday, October 10, Homecoming begins with the 10 a.m. parade in New Market. The parade runs from east to west on MD 144, beginning near the nursery at the intersection of 75 and 144, continuing to the elementary school. The parade will include several floats made by different student organizations at the school, local fire departments, and the marching band. Please come out and support the Lancers.
- On Sunday, October 11, each grade will be painting their portion of the hill behind the school. Please contact each of the class officers for more information about how you can participate.
- On Monday, Spirit Week begins. Participate by wearing the day’s spirit wear, and you will earn points for your class!
- Monday: Pajama Day
- Tuesday: Back to the Future Day
- Wednesday: Combined USA/Class Color Day:
- Freshmen wear Red
- Sophomores wear White
- Juniors wear Blue
- Seniors wear Red, White, and Blue tie-dye or any USA – themed apparel
- Thursday: Red/Black and bow day: Earn a point for wearing red and black, AND earn a point for each bow that you wear!
- On each day during Spirit Week, lunch competitions will be held (all lunch shifts). Be sure to pay attention to the excitement and see who wins!
- On Thursday, October 15, the Pep Rally will be held during first period.
- On Friday, October 16, we do not have any school, but we do have a football game at 7 p.m! The Homecoming king and queen will be announced then.
- On Saturday, October 17, the Homecoming dance will be held. The SGA needs your help for set up in the morning! Grab a few of your friends and come out at 9 a.m. to help set up. Contact your class officers for more information.
- The dance will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Help will also be needed from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. for clean up. Please stay if you will be able to help!
- On Sunday, October 18, the SGA will be participating in the “Making Strides” Breast Cancer Walk. This will be held in Mount Airy at 10 a.m. (Registration is at 9 a.m.) Join the team or make a donation .
