Class of 2019–People you need to know: Mr. Julian Lazarus, drama
June 9, 2015
The Lance interviewed Mr. Lazarus– often referred to as Laz– as part of the 54 Questions feature. He is the head of the drama and dance department. He is the adviser for both the National Theatre and National Dance honor societies. In addition, Lazarus is the Film Studies teacher and the adviser of the Men’s Society club.
Lazarus also works closely with English teacher Mr. Damon Norko to produce and direct the drama productions. Each year, the school puts on two shows– one play and one musical. The advanced acting class also performs a showcase of their original work.
For those who are not interested in taking a drama class or simply don’t have the room in their schedule, anyone can audition for the school plays, and the directors make sure most are included. If you are not interested in being in the spotlight, there are always spots available for a set developers, lighting crew, and other backstage positions.
Why should ninth graders know Laz?
This past year, Lazarus won the yearbook teacher superlative for being the “all around” best teacher. Students often describe him as fun and easy to talk to. Both drama and dance are great ways to get involved at school.

Dear Julian,
I can’t begin to tell you how thrilled I was to find this interview in my ‘space files’. Had not seen it before. Just slipped through the cracks I guess!
I would like to have a copy if that’s possible.
Your mother is beaming I’m sure … as the dreary clouds just burst open with a Sunbeam as I played the interview!
I love you and pray for your continued success.
Proud to have had a moment in time with you! Love,
Aunt Brooke
