It was a cold March day, with an air temperature of 36 degrees and the water a frigid 33.
On Wednesday, March 5th, students from all over Maryland screamed and ran into the cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for Maryland Special Olympics. Students from both middle schools and high schools participated in the ‘Cool Schools Challenge’ – a special Polar Bear Plunge just for students. Linganore students raised over $1200 by rushing into the almost-frozen bay. See video of the event from WBAL here.
After braving the cold waters, the plungers ran back ashore and into one of the huge, superheated tents to dry off and warm up.
By the end of the day, Maryland Special Olympics CEO Jim Schmutz estimated that the Polar Bear Plunge fund would be within $500,000 of its $2.5 million goal.
