As many of you know, Friday, April 11th, is the national Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is a national youth movement which brings attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their friends. If you wish to participate in this silent and peaceful protest of anti-LGBT bullying, harassment, and name-calling, you can take a vow of silence to represent the silence faced by LGBT people and their friends every day. Get a participation slip for your teachers to sign from Mrs. Dillon in Room B123, and return it to her by the end of the day tomorrow.
If you are interested in learning about the environment and natural resources, consider attending a week-long summer camp in western Maryland. You may also earn 2 college credits for taking part in this camp. See Ms. Radil-Harris in C103 for more information.
There will be a College Information Night tomorrow, April 8th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Linganore Media Center. Anyone can plan to attend, especially juniors, to learn the application process and how to best use summer 2014 and your senior year to prepare for life after high school.
The State FFA Spring Career Development Events were held this past week at The University of Maryland. The Linganore FFA Chapter was represented by four teams including Agronomy, Milk Quality and Products, Nursery and Landscape, and Food Science. The Milk Quality and Products team, as well as the Nursery and Landscape team, placed 2nd in their events, and will compete at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts in September. The Food Science team placed first and will compete at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky this fall. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Tennis Team for beating Middletown last Friday by the match score of 4-1. The Lancers will play Frederick away today.
Congratulations again goes to our FIRST Robotic Team 686 for their repeated outstanding performance this past weekend at the three day Chesapeake Regional Competition at the University of Maryland. They finished eighth out of 54 Engineering Teams from all over the United States and Canada, which earned them a seat in the finals. The team has received a special invitation from Lockheed Martin to demonstrate their skills at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington DC.
Starting next week, bring in canned foods to your first period teacher. The Class of 2016 is holding a food drive. Help them reach their goal of 2000 pounds.
