This is the fourth profile in Lancer Media’s Back to School Series: New Teachers.

Mrs. Kathryn Papuchis regularly teaches Government, Modern World, and American Studies II.

Papuchis started her teaching career last year, working as a long term substitute at Walkersville Middle and Governor Thomas Johnson High School. A Frederick County native, she grew up in Middletown and went to Middletown High School, and then earned a degree from Hood College.

Papuchis is very involved in the athletic department. She coached indoor and outdoor track in Middletown even coached indoor track at Linganore last year. Papuchis hopes to coach track this year, as well.

Papuchis has wanted to be a teacher ever since the end of her high school career as a student. She looked up to two of her social studies teachers as well as her inspirational AP Chemistry teacher, all of which have greatly impacted her as a person as well as a teacher.

“Why wouldn’t you want to work at Linganore High School?” said Papuchis.

Papuchis looks forward to getting to know her students, as well as making her mark on the school and maybe even one day teaching AP classes.

Papuchis’ favorite high school memory was winning state championship in track four consecutive seasons in a row. She spends her free time attending events such as concerts, dinner dates, and running or hiking with her friends and family.

She says she is interested in, “Anything that can help me to unplug from the world.”
