From Facebook to Twitter, Wordle fans are posting these green, yellow, and gray squares.
What are they?
These squares come from the recently popular game Wordle. Once a side project for a software engineer, Josh Wardle’s word-based game has become an internet sensation. The game invites players to guess a random five letter word once a day. Players are given six chances to type five letter words, with each word highlighting the individual letters either; yellow, gray, or green.
Green- The player has found a letter in the right spot for the daily word.
Yellow- The player has found a letter, but is in the wrong spot for the daily word.
Gray- The player has found a letter that isn’t in the daily word.
The game originally was made for Wardle’s wife, Palak Shah, whose native language isn’t English. He designed this game to be a fun English word game for his wife to use and was also shared among family members. The game went from a family game to being released to the public in October 2021. By November 1, the game had 90 players and three months later, over 300,000 players tried to guess the daily word.
Due to the crazy success of the game,Β The New York Times bought the game, and it is now a free access game. Β Players are worried it will go behind a pay wall soon.
Other developers are jumping on the Wordle craze. These Wordle babies are games testing musics, geography, math, facts, and plenty more.
