Senior Destinations 2019: Morgan Mathews hurdles over challenges to go to Frostburg
Morgan Mathews will be attending Frostburg State University to play field hockey and run both indoor and outdoor track. This next chapter allows her to follow her dream, playing sports in college while getting an exceptional education at a great school.
Mathews plans to major in Geology and Earth Science.
She is most excited to journey to a new place and become more independent yet feels ambivalence about leaving because her friends will be far away.
Mathews has had several sport related injuries, including knee surgeries and a broken collar bone that resulted in missing school days and frustration. Her struggles throughout high school never stopped her from completing her goals and working towards her dreams.
Mathews says, “Your life is merely the sum total of the choices you make.”
Throughout her high school experience Mathews has always been involved in sports, but her list of extracurricular activities don’t stop there. She was involved in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Key Club, PTSA Student Representative, stage crew for theater, Assistant Soccer coach, Track Student Coach
“I want to thank my awesome dad and my wonderful stepmother for trusting me and pushing me to be my best,” said Mathews.
