Spanish Honor Society celebrates Hispanic heritage month
News from the Spanish Honor Society:
Hispanic Heritage Month – This month the Spanish Honor Society worked to promote Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. Each school day during the announcements, one Hispanic individual of importance was mentioned, including Ellen Ochoa, Lionel Messi, and Pablo Picasso.
Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) – the Spanish Honor Society will host a celebration during school with activities, food, and crafts. The Day of the Dead is a popular holiday celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd throughout Mexico as a remembrance of friends and family who have passed away. During this holiday, sugar skulls are often used to decorate their ofrendas (offerings). During the society’s celebration, the members will create and decorate skulls of their own. With this, they hope to promote the Hispanic culture throughout Linganore.
The Spanish Honor Society is planning a field trip to the Gala Theater later this year to watch a traditional flamenco dance. Additionally, all of the members will be creating either a poem, painting, photograph, or essay to submit to the Albricias – a Spanish artwork magazine.
