Welcome to LHS: Like Batman, Bortner uses strength for teaching and baseball
Mr. Jesse Bortner is one of the 243 new teachers that Frederick County Public Schools hired this year. Bortner is an ambitious, young, motivated teacher who is currently teaching English 10. He is originally from York, Pennsylvania. He attended Mount Aloysius College, majoring in English and Secondary Education.
Bortner enjoys activities such as lifting weights and running. He also loves to play baseball and played catcher and first base for Mount Aloysius. Throughout college, he was recognized for scholar and athletic awards. He is hopes to one day coach baseball at the high school level.
Devin Kohn, senior baseball player said, “I think it would be cool to have a new coach around.”
His favorite superhero is Batman. According to Bortner, Batman is cool because he doesn’t necessarily have any superpowers but still manages to win his with his natural strength.
Bortner’s favorite foods include Snickers bars and chicken Parmesan. “I could eat any kind of chicken Parmesan, on noodles, in a sub. I don’t care it’s just so good.”
Bortner originally wanted to be a motivational or public speaker, but he became a teacher because he decided that teaching could have the same effect: motivating and encouraging people. As a teacher, he would be able to mold young minds to do something good.
In high school and college, Bortner did lawn care and six years of furniture installation. “We would always move furniture into schools, homes, basically anywhere,” he said.
“My future goals include providing for a family and making the best of each day,” said Bortner.
