Class of 2016: Senior track and field members see the finish line in the distance with 13 days left
With only 13 days left of school and the outdoor track season coming to a close, the senior members of the track and field team are leaving their final footprints on the track.
Seniors Kayla Harner, Sabrina Moxley, Tyler Fleagle, Brennan Henyon, Thomas Lang, Michael McDonald, Will Nixon, Tyler Peigh, Brandon Sapp, and Jack Wilkerson have ran, hurdled, thrown, and jumped their way through their four years at Linganore. They all reflected on their favorite memories while on the team.
Senior, Kayla Harner, who will be attending Messiah College in the fall to study applied health science, pinpointed her favorite track memory to be dancing with her teammates in the middle of the field before the Oakdale Invitational this year, as well as competing with her team
Both Brandon Sapp and Jack Wilkerson’s favorite memory was competing with their relay teams. Sapp with join the University of Maryland’s Class of 2020 in the fall to study either engineering or economics, while Wilkerson will be attending Frederick Community College next year. Similar to Sapp, Tyler Peigh will be attending University of Maryland, Baltimore County to study mechanical engineering.
Sabrina Moxley will be joining teammate, Jack Wilkerson, at Frederick Community College, where she will spend two years earning her general education credits and narrow her career focus. Her favorite memory was dancing and having fun with her teammates at the Middletown meet.
Tyler Fleagle, Thomas Lang, and Michael McDonald are not just star track athletes, but key components of Linganore High School’s football and basketball teams. Fleagle will be attending the United States Military Academy, while McDonald will be attending Salisbury University to continue their football careers. Lang will be attending Shepherd University to continue his basketball career. Fleagle’s favorite track memory was having fun with his teammates, while Lang most enjoyed the track experience as a whole because he was able to experience a new sport. McDonald’s favorite memory was when he reached a personal accomplishment of throwing 100 feet in discus for the first time.
Brennan Henyon and Will Nixon plan to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Henyon’s favorite memory of track was when he ran a personal record of 4:25 in the 1500 meter run at the Scorpion Classic and beat his best by over 15 seconds. Despite his rank of 13th in his heat before the race, he outran his competition, placing 2nd. Nixon most enjoyed competing at states during indoor track.
Each of the seniors will be heading in separate directions next year, but can all agree that they will most miss competing together and helping the underclassmen reach their full potential.
Although all the seniors have specialized in different running and field events during their track careers, they have all greatly contributed to the team’s success as a whole and will be missed.
