Class of 2016: Senior journalists sign off on their last day
Senior members of Lancer Media, Alyssa Mattison, Emily Gorham, Kasal Smaha, Elena Guardia, and Olivia DuBro, have said their goodbyes to Linganore on their last day. The editors and reporters of The Lance are leaving Lancer Media with fond memories.
“IBM’s slogan was ‘Think,'” said Smaha. “Then Apple came along and said, ‘Think different.’ For me, journalism was my ‘Apple.’ It encouraged me to think outside the box differently than my other English classes ever did.”
Gorham, second semester journalism student, will be attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland to study history or political science.
“I’ve been enrolled in journalism for three years and I continue to say it was the best decision I have made. I wouldn’t have met the people that I have, developed the skills that I did, and I honestly wouldn’t have known half the things that happen at Linganore,” said Mattison, Senior Editor of the Lance. Mattison will be attending Frederick Community College in hopes of becoming a teacher in the future.
Guardia will attend the University of Alabama in the fall to major in social work in order to help veterans and families of those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. “I’m really gonna miss the atmosphere at Linganore and hanging out with my best friends all the time,” she said. “But I’m really excited for college next year.”
Current editor-in-chief of The Lance, Olivia DuBro, is going to Clemson University to become a child psychiatrist.
