Class of 2016: Harry Potter Alliance seniors cast their final spell with 12 days left
The Harry Potter Alliance is saying goodbye to many seniors this year. Marissa Maze and Corinne DeFrancisci are co-presidents of the club.
“Last year there wasn’t a leader,” said DeFrancisci, so this year she and Maze took an active role in increasing membership.
Throughout the year, the HPA has sorted their members in the four Houses (Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin), held a book drive, and organized the annual Quidditch match.
The first annual Quidditch tournament last May, where teams played a version of the popular game from the novels, greatly boosted interest in the club. The second annual tournament is being held on May 17th and registration is open until the day of the match.
DeFrancisci plans to attend the University of Maryland, and is considering studying political science.
“I like how everybody connected,” said Sara Combs, a member of HPA who is attending Florida Gulf Coast University next fall. “People who are usually quiet in class can talk and share their love of the books in HPA.”
