Class of 2016: Girls basketball makes a fast break toward graduation – 5 days
Seniors Tanner Ridgely, Karly Johnson, and Sarah Roerty are crossing over from ‘ball is life’ to ‘this is real life’ as they journey into a world outside of high school.
Johnson is dribbling toward Towson University to major in nursing. She says she will miss joking around with her coach, Rachel Easterly, and being a part of a team.
Both Roerty and Ridgely are moving up court to Stevenson University, where they will both be retiring their LHS baskebtall jerseys and putting away there squeaky court shoes. Ridgely will be gaining a Stevenson softball jersey. Out with the old: in with the new.
Ridgely will be studying pre-physical therapy and Roerty plans to major in biochemistry.
This year, the Girls basketball team made it to the third playoff game in the 2016 MPSSAA Girls Basketball State Championship tournament. Unfortunately, the team was beaten by Frederick High School, who went on to play in the semi-finals, but the LHS basketball team didn’t let that taint their view of high school basketball.
“The best part isn’t necessarily winning. It’s making memories with people,” said Johnson.
Roerty added, “I’m going to miss my teammates and coaches more than anything.”
The girls all agreed that many of their best memories included beating Thomas Johnson High School.
Both Ridgely and Johnson’s favorite win was making a comeback against TJ freshman year from 50 points behind at half-time.
Roerty’s favorite wins were both this year and last year’s playoff wins against TJ.
Good luck to these girls as they ‘shoot’ for their dreams.
