Class of 2016: NHS makes the last 29 days honorable

Read more about the LHS National Honor Society.

The National Honor Society seniors are already planning for graduation. With only 29 days of school left, their April meeting detailed how to order stoles and when to turn in service hours.

In addition to participating in community service projects and events around the community, the society also hosted fundraisers and projects of their own. This year, NHS held the annual talent show and sold paper “blood drops” in order to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. They raised a total of $1,000 dollars.

Today, after their meeting, a collection of members hung the drops on the cafeteria wall to showcase the donations made.

Senior Lexi Gillum, who will be attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the fall to study human biology on a Pre-Medicine track, said, “NHS has helped me to participate more within my community.”

They aren’t finished yet! The honor society is participating in a basketball game at Oakdale High School in which the proceeds benefit The Samaritan Women, a foundation that serves to combat domestic human trafficking. Come out on April 20 at 6:00 p.m. to support them!
