Taqueria el Jalapeño is a Mexican Restaurant located in Mount Airy, Md. It seemed to be a spot locals are enjoying, so I went and tried it out for myself, and my comrade Andrew Kelley.
When I sat, I was given a complimentary bowl of warm tortilla chips with salsa. They serve a variety of Mexican dishes, with prices ranging from $10-20. Some dishes include street tacos, burritos, and gorditas.
I ordered a Carne Asada sandwich. The juicy steak sandwich was served in telera bread, a mildly sweet and yeasty mexican roll with lettuce, onions, tomato, avocado, panela cheese and jalapeño slices, topped with a fresh and tasty chipotle aioli.
The sandwich had a pleasant and flavorful taste. The sandwich is priced at $12, which is a great price for the large portion that was served. The sandwich was so large it could be split between two people.
Our friendly and patient waiter recommended a house-made Horchata, to accompany the meal. The milk-based horchata beverage was rich and flavorful, with a nice cinnamon flavor. It was served over ice. The drink was refreshing and very nice to sip on after eating the spicy chips and salsa.
After finishing the sandwich, we had four dessert options to choose from: churros, Tres Leches cake, strawberries and whipped cream, and Flan. After some consideration, I decided on the churros. The Churros were crispy, with a pleasant surprise of vanilla cream on the inside. They were sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar and served with a side of chocolate sauce.

I would definitely recommend the churros to anyone who will visit this place. The decor in the restaurant was a nice addition to the overall experience. There were plants on a windowsill, beautiful yellow walls and lots of decorations. The decorations included guitars, sombreros, and some nice paintings. The beautiful decorations made the place feel casual, and relaxing.
This place stood out to me above other Mexican restaurants in the area. Problems I have ran into with other restaurants in the area is the way the waiters and waitresses act. Our waitress was thoughtful, and our food came out very quickly. This restaurant is my new go-to spot. If I were to visit again, I would definitely try out the tacos, and the burrito.
Taqueria el Jalapeño is open everyday except for Sunday, from 10 AM-9 PM. The restaurant is located at 11 W Ridgeville Blvd, Mt Airy, MD. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area who has been looking for a nice, neighborhood restaurant to start visiting.
