On February 11 the varsity basketball team was on cruise control in their win against the Urbana Hawks. The Lancers won the game in dominating fashion with a final score of 65-42. This marks the second time the Lancers have beaten Urbana this year, as they downed the Hawks on January 14, 61-42.

The first quarter was a slow start for both teams as both teams scored under ten points entering the final 4 minutes of the quarter. The Lancers decided to change that as they hit the jets. Lander guard Chase Maddox hit two three-point shots to end the first quarter as Linganore took a 19-8 lead.

The dominant Lancers kept piling up points on the scoreboard in the second quarter. The Hawks went on a five-minute scoring drought which was the last thing they could afford this night. The Hawks finally ended the drought and hit a three, but the demanding Lancers had already made their mark and pushed their lead to 20 to end the first half.

Early into the third quarter the Lancers shared the ball equally, getting everyone involved, and, to cap it off, Chase Maddox hit another three to stretch the lead to 30.

“I don’t really care about how much I score. It’s all about the team and a team effort. I wanna help my guys win, and it’s great we could come out here and do that tonight.” Maddox said.

With the final four minutes left in the game the Lancers were able to rest the starters and put the reserves in. The Lancers served up dominance with a 65-42 win.

Linganore basketball’s next game is home against the Walkersville Lions on Tuesday, February 18, at 7 PM.
