Jack Maerten wants to make his competition “Jealous Guys” in the 2020 Mr. Linganore competition

“He has worked so hard at everything the drama department has thrown at him; from being a bald and kooky Uncle Fester, to a rebellious dancing Ren McCormack, to a bumbling and comedic Lefou, and a godsend in Clarence. And I’ve enjoyed watching him pour his heart and soul into every character he’s brought to life on the stage.” – Angela Smithhisler

Here Comes the Sun as Jack Maerten portrays John Lennon in the 2020 Mr. Linganore competition.

Maerten chose to portray Lennon for very humble and heartfelt reasons. “We were supposed to choose someone who we saw as a visionary, and Lennon performed peace, love, and acceptance for all,” said Maerten.  The theme of the contest is “Men of Vision.”

Maerten is being sponsored by a local real estate company Keller Williams Integrity and will be escorted by girlfriend Amelia Jansan.

History and theater teacher Angela Smithhisler  describes Jack as energetic, charismatic, hardworking, and magnetic. “I knew he was going to be something special when he blew me away as a freshman in his audition for the spring musical. He exuded such confidence that we were immediately drawn to him.”

Maerten has participated in  clubs and activities from wrestling his sophomore year to being a member of band and theater for all four years of his high school career.  Sophomore year he portrayed Ren McCormack in Footloose and has appeared in several other productions.

Maerten discussed how he’s always wanted to see a Mr. Linganore competition, but  his excuse is freshman year his ride bailed on him.

Now that Maerten has an opportunity to participate he said, “I’ve always thought of Mr. Linganore as a beauty pageant for dudes. If this is something that I can incorporate all my friends into. I can see this being a FUN experience.”

Maerten believes that he will do best in the cake contest because it doesn’t require much thought and time.

In addition to his own talent, Maerten is a part of Mr. Linganore contestant Jacob Blue’s act. “The best part so far has been when we went to Jacob’s house to practice. His whole getup is very interesting,” said Maerten.

Jack Maerten doesn’t see himself winning but he said  “it would be an honor to go win and he would take the crown gracefully.”
