Both juniors and seniors are in their last few years, or even months, of high school. During this time, students often struggle and stress about what college they are going to and what they will major in. After all, their future depends on this.

On October 2, Student Services hosted a mini college/career fair. Representatives and recruiters from colleges and career groups set up on Main Street. Students had the opportunity during PREP and their lunch period to explore their options. They could talk to the college representatives at the booths in hopes they find the right college for them.

With 34 college, trade and military recruiters, students were destined to find a college that matches their needs.

Between 6:30-8:30pm on the same day, these recruiters and more were at Frederick Community College for the larger fair.

Many students were given a small sheet of paper that sampled possible questions students can ask the representatives and recruiters to receive more information. Some questions include: What makes your college unique?, Are there opportunities for internships or job placements  for graduates?, etc.

Marianne Virnelson, a representative from Randolph College said, “[Randolph College] was just the perfect fit for me. I know that since we are such a small school we don’t have as such a strong presence and not enough name power so I love going to these events where I can talk to students and maybe they’ll find what they’re looking for.”

Junior Gabby Young talked the recruiter from the University of Alabama. She was impressed by the application process. Young said, “Their application was different than most because it only takes around five minutes. All they look at is test scores and transcripts.”

College and career opportunities included Allegany College, Bridgewater College, Elizabeth College (PA), Ferrum College, Frederick Community College, FCC Work Force Development, Garret College, Hood College, McDaniel College, Messiah College, Mount Saint University, Salisbury College, York College of Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College, Frostburg State University, Loyola University, Morgan State University, Monroe Center, Notre Dame of MD, Penn State-Mount Alto, Shenandoah University, Shepherd University, Stevenson University, Towson University, UMBC, University of Maryland, University of Mary Washington, University of Pittsburgh (Bradford), University of Tennessee, and Virginia Common Wealth University.

Student Services urges students to use the website Naviance. In addition to all of the college planning tools, college visits are announced on the website.
