On January 2, the JV indoor track team competed at their second developmental meet of the season at Hagerstown Community College.

The team didn’t expect groundbreaking results, as the meet was the first day back from winter break, but they performed their best with the conditioning they had.

The team’s strength was bringing some of their upperclassmen athletes to the meet to practice for upcoming varsity meets. Senior Ben Rose ran a 55 meter dash and an 800 meter run at the meet. He ran the 55 meter dash as a warmup for his 800 to earn a varsity time for this event.

The JV athletes only have one meet left in their season, but many will stay and practice with the team to try and earn varsity times.

“It’s a goal of mine to get a varsity letter, but I have to earn those times first,” said Evan Gobien. Gobien competes in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. It’s tough to compete in two events that long, especially since the competitions are close together at the meets.

The JV team is also working on improving their field events.

“My top throw was 31 feet 6 inches. I need to improve my form a bit when throwing, but besides that I felt great,” said shotput competitor Carmen Alotto. Alotto is on the team for the first time this year and has a lot of potential. He’s really enjoying track and field.
