When you see staff wearing red t-shirts today, give them a high-five. These 18 amazing people created five teams and competed in a summer reading challenge. Collectively, they read over 82,000 minutes. That’s a whopping 1,370 hours! Take note of the back of their shirts. If you see Ms. Troxel, Ms. Newcomb, Mrs. Rebetsky or Mrs. Peterson, congratulate them on winning. Special shout out to Ms. Troxel, our Super Reader, who logged more than 12,000 minutes – which is over 200 hours! Well done first-rate readers!

Today begins Banned Books Week, which celebrates the freedom to read. This annual event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. We invite you to explore what the week means by visiting the Learning Commons. Reflect on your freedom to read, cherish it, and, by all means, read what you want to read. As the author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, said, “You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”
