On September 25 the varsity boys soccer team took on the Oakdale Bears. Varsity came into the game on a 5 game losing streak, not scoring a goal all season. They were just hoping to get that one goal to carry momentum for the rest of the season.

The game started out slow as the ball was batted back and forth for the first 20 minutes of the game. With 17 minutes left in the first half, junior Aiden Shaw had a shot on goal to the bottom right corner. Oakdale’s goalie dived but just missed it as it was perfectly place for Linganore’s first goal of the season.

Sophomore Julian Rodriguez said, “The goal increased the momentum of the game and also increased our energy and we were determined to score another goal and win the game everyone could feel the energy in the stadium”

The next 17 minutes would take away all of this momentum as Oakdale had two goals within 12 minutes going into the second half with Linganore’s stolen momentum.

Yet five minutes into the first half,  senior captain Christian Nolan scored a goal in the bottom left corner of the net. The team celebrated as it was only their second goal of the season. The game continued with possession going back and fourth. Despite all of the momentum, Oakdale scored in the final moments, a devastating loss for Linganore.

Joe Ferraro of the Frederick News Post covered the game.

The September 27 game was cancelled due to weather.

Linganore boys soccer has their next game on October 1 at South Hagerstown.
