The UMBC Center for Women in Technology is currently looking for new members for their program.

The Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) helps the University of Maryland, Baltimore County achieve its goals by helping to identify areas in science, engineering, and technology where women are underrepresented. It seeks to attract well-qualified women through opportunities such as scholarships and working with other departments and other campus partners.

UMBC is now accepting applications from current high school junior girls for the Bits and Bytes Program. Anyone interested will learn more about engineering and computing. This year, 30-35 students will be able to attend this program.

This is a great opportunity for any girls interested in working in these departments. It will encourage more female leadership in areas where women are generally not represented well.

In order to be considered for the program, you must fill out an online form.

CWIT is looking for students with a 3.0 GPA or higher, someone strong in mathematics and science, someone who wants to learn and explore more in the IT and engineering departments, and students with strong leadership qualities.

The program includes interactions with college students and staff, an engineering and computing hands-on design competition, and advice on being a STEM college student.

The program is overnight and students will be staying at the CWIT Living-Learning Community on campus. The event is happening on February 19-20, 2018.
