On October 22, Cheerleading won their second competition of the season at Frederick Scott Key High School. At their first competition at Westminster, both Varsity and JV took first place, despite having errors in their routine.

At the Frederick Scott Key Invitational, Linganore cheerleading was ready to perform a better routine than they performed at the last competition. Energy was high as they walked into the warm up room.

Sophomore Sofia Toccalino said, “We all came ready to do our best. We felt much more prepared than we did last competition.”

JV had a solid performance. The crowd fed off the athletes’ energy and loved their performance.

Varsity went later in the competition, and, when they finished, the entire audience went crazy.

Varsity scored a 125.25, with a .25 deduction for a stunt bobble. With this score, Varsity scored 10 points higher than their second place competitor. Last season, Varsity’s highest score was a 124.6.

Sophomore Abbie Tansey said, “We were all so excited to hear our score. Knowing that we scored that high definitely gives us the motivation to work hard going into states.”

At this contest, varsity competed against six other teams: Westminster, St. Charles. Atholton, Reservoir, CM Wright, and Frederick in the 3A/4A Division.  JV competed against four other teams: Westminster, Liberty, CM Wright and Hereford.

Last season, varsity came close to undefeated. Despite winning Counties, Regionals, and States, Varsity took second at an invitational at Marriotts Ridge. This season, they hope to have an undefeated season for the first time in Frederick County Public School history.

Senior, Morgan Kelly said, “We have already won states, and while our end goal is to be a 2x State Champion team, it would be amazing to break a new record and go undefeated my senior season.”
