On April 3, the girls varsity lacrosse team played a home game against North Hagerstown and won 19-10.

Head coach for varsity, Brooke Wilson, said, “People on all sides of the field played with confidence, which I think really showed on our offensive end with all of the drives. My biggest hope for the team is to break the stigma that LHS girls lax are the underdogs.”

The referee called up to the officials running the clock since the clock ran a few seconds past the whistle, and, eventually, officials turned off the scoreboard in the second half, so the spectators and players did not know the time or the score.  There were yellow cards given to players on both teams; rough play was not being tolerated from either side.

There were many contributors to the ladies’ win. Senior goalie Bridget Murphy, did a great job with 12 saves throughout the game. Junior midfielder Mary Britton had three goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Adriana D’Amore had five goals and one assist.

The Frederick News Post reviewed the game and highlighted the new coach and team play as part of the reason for the girls’ new success.  Last year varsity won only two games.

Junior attack player Emily Sedgwick said, “I think the level of energy and intensity we had going into the game was a huge contributor to our win. Using that motivation will definitely help us get some very similar outcomes as we continue in our season.”

At the end of the first half, Linganore was leading with a score of 9-5. The Hubs had a strong force coming out into the second half; the score was a nail-biting 12-10 midway through.

Their next game will be April 5 at home against Oakdale High School. Show up to some of their other games and represent that Lancer pride.
