The Linganore Lancers girls lacrosse team lost a their first season game on March 27 against the Frederick Cadets last night, with the final score being 15-7.

The Lancers lost in what could be described as a learning curve of a game. They started out slow and entered the intermission down 11-1. They came out of the break looking confident and aggressive, outscoring the Cadets in the second half 6-4.

The leading scorer for the Lancers was junior Mary Britton, netting three goals. Adriana D’amore, Clare Beiter, Lily Eisenhart, and Avery Robertson also chipped in, each scoring a goal.

Defensive player Francesca Martinazzi thinks that there are a lot  the team could improve on. “Communicating is a big key to winning, and we could always improve on that. It’s also important to have confidence in ourselves and our teammates.”

The girls are looking to improve upon last season when they went 2-11. Varsity is re-building, with  five underclassmen on their team. They are backed by a strong JV team.  JV beat Frederick with a score of 10-5.

Martinazzi thinks that the team will start to see success soon.“Once we start playing more games and getting comfortable with each other, we have the potential of being really good.”

The girl’s lacrosse team plays their next game on Thursday, March 29th against Middletown at Middletown High School. The JV team plays at 5:30, and varsity plays at 7:00.
