On November 7 during PREP, the National Mathematics Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, inducted 34 new members: 15 juniors and 19 seniors.

The ceremony was lead by Jennifer Weiss, math teacher, Erika Katsumoto, president, Jane Quackenbush, vice president of tutoring, and Gunnar Eklund, vice president of competitions. The four explained the requirements that all of the new members need to meet in order to remain a part of the NMHS. A few of these requirements are to maintain a 3.25 unweighted overall GPA and a 3.5 unweighted math GPA and to complete two hours of tutoring a year, one hour in the fall and one in the spring.

Ms. Weiss said, “The purpose is to help the community. As a tutor you have to put yourself in the role of a teacher and help guide the people you are tutoring.”

The students who were inducted have worked especially hard in their math courses and look forward to becoming members for more reasons than just to receive a cord for graduation.

Junior Madelyn Kahler said, “My favorite part of becoming a member of the honor society is being able to meet new people and knowing I help people in my school and community.”

The juniors who were inducted into Mu Alpha Theta this year are: Kojo Benefo, Connor Browne, Gerald Fattah, Taylor Ferguson, Alison Gagne, Madelyn Kahler, Lawrence Liu, Jake Muller, Keersten Myers, Joseph Paparello, Abigail Parker, Jack Rich, Warren Stewart, Nicole Stonestreet, and Megan Vauk.

The seniors who are inducted into Mu Alpha Theta this year were: Connor Boie, Margaret Clugston, Khelsa Connolly, Cecilia Emerson, Caroline Etherton, Kaley Henyon, Olivia Hiltke, Eilis McCormick, Ryan Moore, Rachel Morin, Caitlin Peigh, Emily Reed, Megan Reesman, Ben Rose, Savannah Sitler, Kelly Stouffer, Shelby Tkacik, Kelsey Wiegand, and Bryce Witmer.
