After the Linganore’s Junior Varsity team got their first win under their belt, the Lancers have been on a cold streak. Losing 13-3 to Oakdale on April 13 in a game that got out of hand.

Linganore pulled ahead first 1-0 with the first batter walking and another batter eventually scoring him on a hit.

A big 1st inning for Oakdale shut down the momentum of the Lancers by putting up four runs making it 4-1.

The Lancers battled back in the next few innings scoring two runs, with hits of Andrew Martin, Dylan Miller, and Austin Franks. This fight brought them to a 4-3 game in the fifth inning.

This is when things went downhill for the Lancers, putting two men on with walks and gave up two hits right after made this a 7-3 game. After a few errors by fielders and two pitching changes, 13-3 was the final score.

“We played a good game until the breakdown, we need to continue having that energy we had early in the game. We lost that energy and fell apart with errors,” said Miller.

This team is showing signs of fundamental baseball around the corner, instead of going up to the plate just to swing a bat, starting to have a productive purpose.

Ryan Bartholow had a sacrifice bunt to move runners over in scoring position, following him was Martin with a hit to score those runners. The team has struggled to score runners in scoring position, but have started to put themselves in a better position.

Pitching (other than the unfolding) was able to stop the deficit and hold Oakdale to few base runners in three solid innings.

More communication with others will be a key factor to turn this season around, along with more confidence in the players themselves and the teammates around them.
