On November 17, 20 and 21,  the horticulture classes made Thanksgiving flower arrangements to celebrate the holiday. Students will give the arrangements as gifts or use them themselves at home.  The department sold arrangements to staff members, too.

Class of 2020 member Charlotte Koogle said, “I like making different kinds of arrangements each day for different occasions.”

Mr. Tom Hawthorne and Mrs. Patricia Beachy believe hands-on-learning teaches the students better than reading out of a book. Making the arrangements that must be good enough to sell or give away makes the experience more authentic.

The arrangements of chrysanthemums, berries, and other fall flowers usually take about two days to complete. Students had to be efficient to finish in time.

The annual poinsettia sale begins as early as next week and orders are due by December 1st, 2017. They can be picked up on December 12 from 2:00-5:30 pm in Room B124/Greenhouse.

Products sold include pretzel sandwiches, subs, fruit baskets, gourmet nuts, cookie dough, cheesecakes, poinsettia and holiday centerpieces.

Profits support the Linganore FFA Chapter and Linganore Horticulture Department.
