St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday started in the 17th century that falls on the death date of Irish saint, Saint Patrick.

Today the holiday is observed in many countries around the world and a staple of it is the color green.

According to The Christian Science Monitor, Green became a color for the holiday due to the belief that it disguised the wearer from Leprechauns and kept them from being pinched, another ritual of the holiday that children seem to take great pleasure in.

Around Linganore, on St. Patrick’s Day this year, students and teachers alike were decked out in green attire.

In celebration of the holiday, Ms. Freimuth’s German 2 class created green paper flowers. By the end of the period the class was filled with green, brightly showcasing the holiday.

Senior, Katie Quirolgico, said, “It was very difficult not tearing the tissue paper, but I finally got it, and I think it turned out really cool in the end.”
