IED students learn how to reverse engineer products: Photo of the Day 12/13/16

In Mr. Mark Lastova and Mr. Pat Greene’s  IED classes, students have been tasked to choose a regular household object and then reverse engineer it. Reverse engineering is basically reproducing another manufacturer’s product by following a detailed examination of its composition and construction.

Object choices to reverse engineer were basically endless, whether it be some sort of toy, a container, or a piece of equipment.

After choosing an object to reverse engineer, the students had to carefully observe everything about the part, including its material, size, and physical appearance.

Later in the project, each student will need to find ways to enhance their products and make them better by adding parts to the objects.

Class of 2020 member Katie Brengel said “The reverse engineering project has really made me think about the innovation that is used when creating even the smallest of products.”
