Congratulations to Emily Seth, Samantha Buckman, Ryan Stark and Jessica Steves on their winning entries into the Frederick County Young Authors Contest. All of these writers will be awarded at the state level Young Authors Contest in April. This is quite the achievement. Their places are as follows: Emily Seth for her poem, “Digital Conversations” runner- up; Samantha Buckman for her short story, “To Those Who Died in the Second World War” first place; Ryan Stark for his poem, “Shoes” runner-up; Jessica Steves for her short story, “Think (Before You Speak)” first place winner.

Advanced Placement (AP) exams will be given the first two weeks of May. All students taking AP exams must be registered no later than Friday, March 18th. Two exam registration periods have ended and this is the last opportunity to register for an exam. Extra exam registration materials are available from Ms. Smith in the Assistant Principal’s office. AP exam rosters will be posted on Main Street on Tuesday, March 29th. Students should verify that their registration has been recorded for each exam requested. Any errors in the exam rosters should be reported to Ms. Smith in the Assistant Principal’s office no later than Wednesday, March 30th. On Wednesday, March 16th, the health room will be hosting an event called National KICK BUTT DAY during all lunch shifts. It is a national day that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco companies. There will be a table at each lunch shift. Please come by the table, see what it’s all about and support being tobacco and nicotine free! Come be a part of Kick Butt Day. Come tell your reason why you have chosen to be tobacco/nicotine free!

The Class of 2019 is hosting a fundraiser at the Frederick California Tortilla on Friday, March 18th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Just say “Linganore” when you place your order to assure that the money goes to our school!

Congratulations to US First Robotics Team 686 Lancer members: Jeffrey Bowser, Kate Cameron, Abby Meyer, Holden Miller, Dalton Mongue, Billy Roberson, Paul Steves and Nate VanHoozer. The team placed second out of nearly forty teams at the First Chesapeake District Greater DC Competition on March 5th. They also won the Industrial Safety Award and the Gracious Professionalism Award.

Congratulations to Jeweliana Hendrickson for winning 1st place in Photography and to Katie Lamb for winning an honorable mention in Art at the Women’s Civic Club association’s Western Regional Art competition. Jeweliana’s photograph will now be moving on to the state level competition.

Congratulations to Nicole Muller. Nicole put in a great ride at the Interschool Horse Show last Sunday. Nicole placed 5th in equitation on the flat and 4th over fences. Way to go Nicole!!
