LHS clubs and Club Day sign-up information

by Lancer Media Staff

Club Fair is tomorrow! Did you know that LHS offers a range of clubs and activities for students to take part in? There are many activities for you to join, from Student Government to Hacky-Sack to Frisbee and Travel.

Many of the clubs meet during school on club days (see schedule below). At the beginning of each school year, Linganore hosts a club/activity fair, where students can learn about the different activities they may participate in.

This year’s activity fair will be held tomorrow, Thursday, September 3 during all lunch shifts in the courtyard. This week in Advisement period, each student received a Club/Activity Registration Card. Students who wish to join clubs may do so by simply filing out these pink cards. Completed cards MUST be returned by end of lunch on Tues, 9/8. Cards can be returned to collection box at all lunch shifts or to room C101. Advisors review and approve all sign-ups.

Participation in any club or activity is voluntary. In addition to meetings during school, some clubs meet outside of the school day, as deemed necessary by the advisor or governing body. In addition, some clubs and honor societies may collect dues.

General Guidelines for Club/Activity Program (from LHS website):

  • Students must be in good academic standing (have at least a 2.0 GPA and no F’s) to participate in the club/activity program.
  • Clubs are held during the second half of each period on club day.
  • No test, quizzes, or new materials should be introduced during the club time
  • Teachers may keep a student in class if the student is not doing well in that class.

Starting a New Club

Any student who wishes to start a club may do so, although no club may function without a faculty advisor. The formation of a new club and the choice of the advisor must be approved by the administration. If you would like to start a club, find a teacher who could serve as your advisor; or see Mr. Brown or Mr. McWilliams to get the process started!
