Mrs. Kate Lane’s cultures and cuisines class spent January 14 making (and eating) soft pretzels.

The pretzel originated in 610 AD when an Italian monk invented them to use as reward for his students who learned their prayers. He said that they resembled arm crossed over a chest like a praying child, and called them “little rewards.”

“Everyone said that the pretzels were good, but our group put too much baking soda on then, so they tasted funny,” said senior Taylor Strahan.

Overall the pretzels were a hit.
