As the end of the school year approaches,  students are stressed about summer, finals, and grades, but one thing they shouldn’t be stressed out about is entering high school as  freshmen.

SGA students and National Honors Society students were assigned, in pairs to take a dozen Class of 2019 students each to tour the school and give them as much information as they can. Windsor Knolls Middle School was welcomed to Linganore High School to take tours, meet some important staff, and learn some interesting facts about the school that they are going to be attending in a few months.

“I think having this move up day is a good way to relieve some of the students’ stress and worry,” said Ilana Blum, freshman guidance counselor.

Mr. Jeremy Brown, SGA Adviser, and Mrs. Ilana Blum talked to students about expectations related to behavior and academics. Student leaders talked about the required classes for next year and what to expect in a cafeteria, hallways, sports and more.

At the end of the trip, students were taken outside in groups to sit in circles, free to ask any remaining questions they had. They frequently asked questions about dress code, relationships, and teachers and were given great student advice.

When the students were preparing to leave, Lancer Media gave them a newspaper with all sorts of important information to know for next year. The students were strongly advised to read the paper. The newspaper included things like…

  • People you need to know
  • Fun facts
  • A map of the school
  • Advise from upperclassman
  • Lance-tionary (words you should know)
  • Sports advice
  • Clubs
  • Getting to know homecoming
  • A chance to win Taylor Swift tickets
