Congratulations to senior Mark Shiderly. Mr. Linganore 2014!

“It was so surreal. I didn’t realize it at first and I didn’t expect to win.” says Shiderly.

After the competition, all of the contestants went to the restaurant Green Turtle to celebrate a great show.

For the competition, Shiderly was Woody from the Disney movie Toy Story.  “Growing up it was one of my favorite movies.  I think it really represented me and my best friend (Hunter Simpson), who was Buzz Lightyear.”

The event included many smaller competitions.  Shiderly’s favorite was the gumdrop tower lunch competition, where the contestants were instructed to build a tower out of gumdrops and toothpicks.

“I liked the lunchtime competitions the best because we were all there side by side the entire time.   It was really cool to see how each guy attacked their challenge,” says Shiderly.

Different from his fellow contestants’ talents, Shiderly’s talent was a puppet show.  “Before the show, the hardest part was to think of a talent, but during the competition it was getting over my nerves about doing my talent.”

All of the contestants were asked the final question, “Whose happily ever after influenced you?”  Shiderly answered, “My parents because no matter how pouty, whiney or upset I get, they are always there for me and want to make our family happy.  I want to grow up and be just like them.”
