Do you like to have fun? Are you interested in marine biology and conservation? Would you enjoy meeting people from all over the world? If so, consider applying for the 2014 Student Summer Volunteer Program at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. See Mr. Brown or Ms. Radil-Harris in C103 for details and an application.

First Team 686 will be having an after school Meeting this Wednesday, November 6th, in Mr. Bergeron’s room. The meeting will be right after school and will end at 4pm.

Any girls interested in trying out for the indoor track team, there will be an informational meeting held this Friday, November 8th in Ms. Scuffin’s room, C217. For any additional information, or if you can’t be at the meeting, see Ms. Scuffins with any questions.

Do you like watching Jeopardy? Do you enjoy playing trivia games? Do you have an interest in competing against students from other schools? If so, you might enjoy being a part of the Linganore Academic Team! The Academic team is a team of students who compete against teams from other schools in a trivia tournament. Team meetings and practices start tomorrow, November 5th and next Thursday, November 7th, from 2:30 to 4 pm in room C102. If you’re still unsure, just stop by anyway. You do not have to commit to the team right away, just come to some practices and see if it’s something you’ll enjoy.

Come support the LHS cheerleaders at their county competition tonight at Tuscarora High School. The competition starts at 8pm- Doors open at 7pm and there is an admission fee of 5 dollars.

The Linganore NJROTC Drill Team attended their first drill meet at Seneca Valley this weekend. The team won first place for Color Guard, and second place for Armed and Unarmed Basic drill. Great job guys!

Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams for their performance at the 3A West Regional Championship. Both teams finished second in the region, qualifying for the state championships. Good luck to all runners this Saturday as they compete at the challenging course at McDaniel University.

The Girl’s Varsity Soccer team defeated Urbana last Friday with a score of 2-0 Great job ladies!

Also, congratulations to the Girl’s Varsity Volleyball team for another win last Friday against Frederick. The team won with a score 3-0. They also play today at Tuscarora. The game starts at 4pm.

Congratulations to the Lancer Marching Band! They competed in the USBands state championship at Annapolis this Saturday and are Maryland state champions for their group! They also competed in the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships in Hershey, PA last night and got 8th place- their best-ever finish. Great job!

Here are a few important bits of information regarding this year’s Safe and Sane event:

  • Next meeting is 7:30 pm on November 5 in the LHS media center. We need over 100 volunteers to make this a successful event. There are several things we need help with now, so please come out and see how you can help.
  • Registration forms were given to every senior who attended the class meeting on October 16. Please return to the LHS front office and they will be placed in the Safe and Sane mail box or bring them to the November meeting.
  • Five Guys restaurant fundraiser on Tuesday November 19, 5 -9pm
  • California Tortilla restaurant fundraiser on Tuesday December 10, 5-10pm

I Drive Smart, a driver-education company offering classes in our area, has partnered with the LHS Sports Boosters. I Drive Smart employs police officers to provide 100% of their instruction. The I Drive Smart program is extremely safety-oriented and offers a stress-free experience for busy parents, with the ability to register, schedule (and reschedule) all sessions, and complete all required paperwork for the MVA online. For every Linganore student who registers for one of their packages through December 31, 2013, I Drive Smart will donate $25 to the LHS Sports Boosters. Enter Linganore as your child’s school during registration to ensure a donation to the LHS Sports Boosters. Deadlines to apply for the SAT and ACTs are approaching quickly. Seniors who plan to apply to four-year colleges who have not yet taken one of these standardized college entrance exams should participate in at least one of these test administrations. Visit the websites of your colleges of interest to learn which of these exams would best meet application requirements.
