The answer to last week’s Spanish heritage question is…Penelope Cruz! She has appeared in films of many genres such as: Waking Up in Reno, Vanilla Sky, Blow, and Pirates of the Caribbean. She is also the featured model for companies like Mango, Ralph Lauren and L’Oreal.

This week’s winner of our FABULOUS PRIZE is…… CORY HADDOCK!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Well, we’ve reached the end of Spanish Heritage month, and that was the last competition. The Spanish Honor Society wishes to thank the hundreds of students who participated in each contest!

 

Congratulations to the Varsity football team for another win last Friday. The team defeated Walkersville with a score of 42 to 7. The team is still UNDEFEATED, with a record of 7 and 0 overall. Keep up the great work guys!

Both the girl’s and boy’s soccer team defeated Brunswick last week. Boy’s JV won a close match, with a score of 1-0 Boy’s Varsity won 2-1, and the girl’s JV and Varsity both finished with a score of 3-0! Way to go Lancers!

Also, congratulations to both LHS field hockey team’s in their win against TJ last week. Varsity won 7 to 1, and JV won 3-0! Great job Lancers!

Congratulations to our Lancer Marching Band for winning the Tournament of Bands Chapter 5 Championship in Group 4 on Saturday night at South Hagerstown. Our band, which is led by drum majors Matthew Raabe, Elizabeth Hushour and Noah Ismael, also won the award for Best Music. The band has now won this regional championship four years in a row, making our band senior class of 2014 the winningest class in Lancer Band History. The band performs again tonight at the Frederick County Band Festival, which will be held at Brunswick High School. The show starts at 6, and our band performs at 7. Congratulations and good luck to the Lancer Marching Band!

The NEHS officers are holding a gently used book drive during the rest of October so that we can have a book sale in November/December to raise money for the Frederick Reading Council. Please bring your gently used books to donate. You can bring them any time between now and October 31. There are blue bins in the main office, the media center, and Mrs. Rebetsky’s room C203.
