On February 28, 2017, the mock trial team competed against Frederick and pulled out a win.

While the team lost based on evidence, the team won based on points scored. The score of the match was 49-48, and Linganore received the tie point.

This year’s case was about lead water in school pipes, similar to the Flint Michigan case. The defendant, Sam Saratoga, wanted to turn back on the school’s water, even after it was revealed that there was lead present.

After the trial, the judge told both competitors, “I have been doing this for years but this was the best trial that I have ever sat through. Both sides knew their sides of the case and presented it well.”

This year’s mock trial prosecution team included: Micheal Zerr, Grace Weaver, Brenna Lindsey, Sofia Schuller, MaKenzie Llewellyn, and Cat Detrick.  Mrs. Jamie Hendi and Mrs. Susan Peterson (both former practicing lawyers) are the team’s advisors.

The team went 3-3 this year and were not able to make it to playoffs. However, while they weren’t able to go to the next level, the kicked Frederick, their biggest competitor, out of playoffs with their final trial.
