What do Ariel, Louisa Von Trapp, and Tessie Hutchison have in common?

They’ve all  been brought to life by sophomore Macy Armagost.

Macy has been in eight local shows so far, and has taken several years of vocal lessons. She’s performed with a local community theatre, Spotlight Musical Theatre as well as Linganore shows. Her favorite role she’s played has been Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

It is not common for a sophomore to secure a leading role in a show. Macy accomplished this task with her debut Linganore role as Tessie Hutchison in Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery.” I liked The Lottery’ because of the underlying themes and symbolisms it has. I liked playing a role that carried so many of the messages in her performance,” said Armagost.

“I admire Macy’s flexibility in many acting situations. She takes direction so easily and is willing to try new things. She also has a natural ability to create a believable character, which is what good actors must do for an audience to buy into their performance,” said drama teacher Angela Smithhisler, who directed Armagost in The Lottery.”

Macy’s parents have been there since the beginning of her theatre career in third grade to drive her to endless rehearsals and strongly support Macy’s choices.

Macy’s dream role is Belle in Beauty and the Beast. She is inspired by other actors of both stage and screen, with Emma Watson being her favorite role model.

The actress has years of vocal lessons and acting experience under her belt. “The most influential teacher I’ve ever had is Mr. Lazarus,” said Armagost. Mr. Lazarus taught Macy in her first acting class in high school, and she accompanied him and many other drama students on last year’s New York City field trip.

Macy plans to continue theatre during her high school career, and is “100% open to the possibility of continuing theatre in college.”
