October 25, 2016 was Mix It Up Day and not the same old day to sit with your friends in the lunch room.

Students were given a  lollipops that matched a color at a table. Students sat at the corresponding table and mingled with other students they ordinarily do not socialize with.

Mix it up Day is a national movement created to help reduce bullying at schools. At each table is a centerpiece with various conversation starters written on it to help break the ice. You never know what the new people at your table are like unless you strike up a conversation with them. You never know. They might have all the same interests as you or have a great sense of humor.

During lunch shifts, Mr. Darren Hornbeck, social studies teacher, went form table to table to quiz students on how well they were getting to know others at their tables.

Class of 2018 student, Allison King said ” Mix it up Day is a great way for students to socialize and interact with others that they wouldn’t normally talk to. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Mix it up Day is a challenge for students and as well as teachers to talk to others and be kind and friendly to everyone.  Teachers also mixed it up at lunch, eating in different areas of the building with different teachers.
