On October 29, the Lancer Marching Band took the Twilight Zone to Towson University for their final competition of the season. The band competed in a band circuit called USBands.

For the past four years, the band has stuck to the Tournament of Bands (TOB) district, composed of four divisions based upon the number of musicians. The band has not competed at the USBands Maryland State Championships since 2012, as they usually participate in the Tournament of Bands Regional Championships in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The USBands district has five divisions in both open and A class, and the Lancer Marching Band was the only band competing in group five open class at Towson.

Color guard and class of 2018 member Payton Hull said, “My favorite part was getting the chance to perform on the Towson field. It was really nice, and it’s cool to see that if we continue doing color guard, we could do that.”

It was a long day, from starting practice on the Linganore parking lot at 1:30pm, a parent showcase at 3:30 pm, then performing at 10pm.

Class of 2017 member and pit section leader Jessie Palmer said, “I liked performing in front of all those people because we were right before Towson so everyone was there for Towson, but got to see us.”

Featured character and class of 2017 member Angela Wilson agreed, “It was really cool that we got to open for Towson, which was a really good show.”

They scored a 381 out of a possible 400, and the color guard scored sixth out of all 48 participating bands at the competition.
