Class of 2016: National Art Honors Society sculpts their future with 22 days left

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) seniors have painted, sculpted, and molded their way through high school.

This school year, Linganore was well represented by the artistic minds of the NAHS seniors. A majority have won awards for their art at different competitions, and some art pieces have even been displayed at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center.

This year’s NAHS council are presidents are Christian Thompson and MacKenzie Wilson, Vice President Deanna Parenti, and Historian Briana Pettaway.

Pettaway will be attending Montclair State University in the fall of 2016. She will be majoring in Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design.

“I’m going to miss all of my favorite teachers,” said Pettaway. “I am also going to miss my fellow art friends who are too talented for their own good.”

Thompson agrees with Pettaway. “I will really miss the people! We all just understand one another and have become a big family. I’m also going to miss the one-on-one connections you can make with not only the students, but the teachers. It will be weird going to school with strangers.”

Thompson will be attending Frederick Community College to complete his general education classes and plans to transfer to Savannah College of Art and Design. He isn’t sure what career he wants to pursue, but he is interested in becoming an animator, prosthetic makeup artist, or a set designer.

Wilson also plans to attend Frederick Community College for her first two years. After Frederick Community College, she will transfer to University of Maryland and major in Special Education. She hopes to pursue a career where she can help people in need and give them more opportunities in life.

Similar to Thompson and Pettaway, Wilson will miss the friends she has made at Linganore. “Although I will be leaving my friends, I am excited to meet new people and learning what I truly want to learn.”
