Child Development is preparing for the new group of children who will be arriving March 3rd. The class is expecting 17 children, and the teens are excited to work with them.

Senior Laura Glawe says that her favorite part about the class is seeing the spark in the children’s eyes when they realize how something works.

A fellow classmate, Aubrey Naill, says that her favorite part is, “Watching the kids grow throughout the time they spend here.”

In order to prepare for the children, the class holds an open house where they bake cookies and invite families to come and see what they have to offer. The class also writes lesson plans so they will be ready to teach when the children arrive.

On the first day that the children come to school, the students greet the children and get them “back into the groove of the class” if they have been there before. They want the kids to feel comfortable in the class so the first  day is spent getting to know each other and playing with toys to relax the children.

Child Development will host a teddy bear picnic and an Easter egg hunt. These events provide a fun and exciting time for the children.  The regular planning and leading the class helps the teens be better teachers.

Nail says she took the class because she enjoys working with children. Students who complete three semesters of child development with a “B” or higher can earn six college credits.
